Tribeca Film Festival Features Culp In Modern Chekhov Classic

New York City, NY - On April 19, the Fourth Annual Tribeca Film Festival returns with hundreds of films and plenty of special events, including free screenings under the stars and an all-day street fair.
One anxiously awaited indie film, The Sisters, reconstitutes Anton Chekhov's play (The Three Sisters) in a university faculty lounge with the ensemble cast of Maria Bello, Eric McCormack, Erika Christensen, Chris O'Donnell, Mary Stuart Masterson, Tony Goldwyn, and Steven Culp.
Selected for the "Narrative Feature Film Competition," this updated version presents the troubled siblings as the austere one, the ascerbic one, the troubled baby, and the brother, who (his sisters think) is about to marry beneath their acerbic selves. The sisters are splendidly portrayed by Maria Bello (Marcia/Masha), Erika Christensen (Irene/Irina), and Mary Stuart Masterson (Olga). Goldwyn romances Bello's Marcia, O'Donnell is paired off with Christensen as Irene's tragic love interest, McCormack creates the tragic situation between Christensen and O'Donnell's characters, while Culp rounds out the ensemble as the husband who must deal with Olga's longing for the simpler life she left behind in the south.
THE SISTERS was directed by Arthur Allan Seidelman and runs 113 minutes.
